Examine fear
Name the fear, its history and the interests around it. Separate immediate danger from inherited narratives and assumptions.
Cultivating Afovia
Afovia names a field of inquiry: how unnecessary, inherited or deliberately cultivated fear might recede enough for dialogue, familiarity and credible cooperation to grow.
The word gives focus to a practical civic question. If fear shapes perception, policy and behaviour, can societies learn to distinguish necessary caution from fear that has become self-perpetuating?
Afovia is not the promise of a world without danger. It is the disciplined attempt to prevent fear from becoming the unquestioned architect of relationships between peoples.
Trust is not credulity. Afovia is not recklessness or denial of danger.
A working definition
Afovia combines intellectual courage with prudence. It asks what fear is protecting, what it is distorting, and what evidence, safeguards or reciprocal actions could allow it to recede.
Three disciplines
Name the fear, its history and the interests around it. Separate immediate danger from inherited narratives and assumptions.
Trust grows when words are matched by reciprocal, verifiable actions that preserve dignity and legitimate security.
Dialogue, familiarity and cooperation create the human and institutional habits on which peace can depend.
It does not minimise violence, power, injustice or genuine threats.
It does not ask any side to abandon legitimate security or accept humiliation.
It requires evidence, prudence, verification and the willingness to revise mistaken assumptions.
It is an invitation to inquiry, dialogue and practical learning across perspectives.
